Attorneys, Staff volunteered more than 1,000 hours in 2023
As one of the nation’s top asbestos law firms, SWMW Law is known for its dedication to its clients. Earlier this month, the firm was recognized for its dedication to its neighbors.
SWMW Law was recently named a finalist in the St. Louis Business Journal’s 2024 Corporate Philanthropy Awards in the small-company category. Companies are selected based on those who gave the most in charitable contributions, including cash and in-kind giving, as well as cumulative volunteer hours. In 2023, the firm donated nearly $200,000 to area nonprofits, and its employees volunteered more than 1,000 hours.
SWMW Law is no stranger to supporting its friends and neighbors in the community. After working at larger firms for many years, the firm’s founding partners opened SWMW Law in 2012 with a mission to take a more personal approach to helping asbestos victims and consumers. That people-first approach extends from the courtroom to our communities.
“At its core, our firm’s ultimate goal is putting people first,” said Member Lauren Williams. “Philanthropy is an extension of our values and our drumbeat – ‘Because people matter.’ We strongly believe it is not only our social responsibility to share our time, energy, and resources with others who need it – it’s something we’re passionate about doing.”
In the past few years, SWMW has further expanded its philanthropic efforts to include additional employee involvement, giving attorneys and staff members the opportunity to regularly participate in volunteer initiatives. Since 2021, employees have volunteered more than 3,000 hours in support of organizations that share the firm’s mission of putting people first. Those hours have been spent helping to build community gardens, cooking meals for the unhoused and those battling cancer, providing holiday gifts for children in foster care, promoting diversity in the arts and in the workplace, providing support for area veterans, and so much more.
“Our leadership team is incredibly proud of the firm-wide enthusiasm our employees exhibit when it comes to serving our community,” Williams continued. “Their willingness to go the extra mile for others truly reflects the people-first culture we’ve worked to develop as a firm. No matter their situation, we are committed to seeing all of our neighbors succeed.”
