SWMW Law is proud to announce Partner Sophie Zavaglia has been named to Missouri Lawyers Weekly’s 2021 class of Up & Coming Lawyers.
“I have worked alongside Sophie for several years and have been privileged to watch her evolve from an associate right out of law school to a partner, team leader and trailblazer,” said founding partner Ben Schmickle. “She not only brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our asbestos and mesothelioma practice, but she also becomes an extension of the families we fight for. What Sophie has accomplished and continues to accomplish is nothing short of impressive, and we are proud to have her on our team.”
The Up & Coming Awards recognize early-career attorneys who are making a positive difference in the practice of law in Missouri and whose outstanding contributions have them on the track for success. This year’s honorees were recognized during a luncheon held Sept. 29, as well as in a special section of Missouri Lawyers Weekly.
Zavaglia joined the firm in 2014, and in 2020, she was promoted to partner. She’s been asked to speak at several conferences across the country on a wide range of topics, and she currently has an active role with the firm’s Legislative and Judicial Committee. In this voluntary role, she travels to Jefferson City to connect with legislators and the judiciary to advocate on behalf of clients and protect their 7th Amendment rights.
Outside of the office, Zavaglia was involved in the St. Louis Demolition Task Force, a group working to change the city’s rules and regulations when it comes to demolishing older buildings and protecting residents from potential asbestos exposure. She also served as President of the Carondelet Business Association and worked to promote small businesses in historically disadvantaged areas. Currently, she participates in mock trials for BAMSL, volunteering her time as a judge for their competitions.
