Asbestos Exposure in Texas

Two workers wearing white safety helmets and light blue shirts are standing outdoors near an industrial refinery complex with tall metal structures, pipes, and chimneys. One worker is pointing towards the refinery while holding documents in the other hand. The scene is set under a clear blue sky.

Texas is home to some of the major industries that are notorious for dangerous asbestos exposure:

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with mesothelioma after working in Texas, you are not alone. SWMW Law has recovered tens of millions of dollars for Texas mesothelioma and asbestos victims, and we are ready to fight for you and your family.

Texas ranks among the top states nationally for mesothelioma deaths, driven by decades of petrochemical refining, shipbuilding, and industrial manufacturing. The Golden Triangle, the Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange region of Southeast Texas, carries some of the highest asbestos-related death rates in the country. Our team understands the industries, the jobsites, and the products that put Texas workers and their families at risk.

Since asbestos is an effective electrical insulator, it was used in almost every part of a power plants, from conduit lagging to the machinery itself. Most people in Texas who have mesothelioma and asbestos lung cancer are workers in these industries.

No matter where you reside, we will come to you, hear your story, and get to work on your behalf. You pay nothing unless we recover compensation on your behalf. Time is of the essence – don’t hesitate to call 844-857-SWMW or contact us online to schedule a free consultation today.

You do not have to file your claim in the state in which you live.

It’s far more important to contact an attorney with a strong history of experience specifically in asbestos cases, than it is to select one who happens to be in your area of Texas. The most successful attorneys in your area may have never handled an asbestos case.

SWMW attorneys dedicate the overwhelming majority of their time and effort prosecuting mesothelioma claims, so we know which states and jurisdictions are going to provide the best outcome for your case and can get your case settled faster.

We handle asbestos cases all across the USA, so we know how to file, where to file, and what to do to get you the compensation you deserve. Call 844-857-SWMW to speak with an Texas mesothelioma and asbestos attorney at SWMW Law.

SWMW Law has recovered tens of millions of dollars for Texas families affected by mesothelioma and asbestos lung cancer. Every case is different, but these results reflect our commitment to fighting for maximum compensation.

From the first phone call to the final resolution, we stand beside you because your fight is our fight, and your family’s future matters to us.

Past results do not guarantee future outcomes. Every case is different.

  • Trial Verdict
    Machine Operator

    $12.2 Million

    Machine Operator with Mesothelioma

    Virginia

SWMW Law's expertise in asbestos litigation delivered a $12.2 million verdict for the family of a Navy veteran and machine operator diagnosed with mesothelioma. The firm's successful wrongful death claim secured compensatory and punitive damages, sending a clear message that corporate negligence carries real consequences.

    Take Home Exposure

    $9.7 Million

    Take Home Exposure with Mesothelioma

    Wisconsin

A Wisconsin mother never worked with asbestos – but childhood exposure to fibers on her stepfather's clothing cost her life. SWMW Law fought for six years to hold the responsible companies accountable, ultimately winning a $9.7 million verdict that honored her final wish: ensuring her son's future would be secure.

  • Settlement
    Pipefitter

    $8.3 Million

    Pipefitter with Mesothelioma

    Missouri

SWMW Law's ability to uncover the full history of a client's asbestos exposure is what sets the firm apart. For a Missouri man, that meant tracing liability across two generations of pipefitting — from secondary exposure as a child to occupational exposure as an adult — and recovering more than $8.3 million in settlements.

Provided below is a list of cities in the state of Texas where asbestos jobsites are known to have been located. If you worked for any of these companies or at these jobsites in Texas there is a possibility that you may have been exposed to harmful asbestos which is known to cause mesothelioma and lung cancer.

Texas’s industrial economy created widespread asbestos exposure, particularly in the petrochemical corridor along the Gulf Coast.

With over 6,600 documented asbestos exposure jobsites, Texas has one of the highest concentrations of occupational asbestos exposure in the nation.

Petrochemical Refining & Oil Industry

The Golden Triangle region of Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange has asbestos-related death rates two to five times higher than national averages. Orange County alone recorded 23.9 asbestos-related deaths per 100,000 population compared to the national average of 4.9. Refineries used asbestos extensively in pipe insulation, vessel lagging, gaskets, and fireproofing.

Common exposure sources include pipe insulation and lagging in refinery process units, gaskets, packing, and valve components, and drilling mud additives containing asbestos from the 1960s through 1980s.

Shipbuilding & Maritime

The Houston Ship Channel, Galveston, and Corpus Christi supported major shipbuilding and repair operations. Facilities like Todd Shipyards, Bethlehem Steel’s Beaumont shipyard, and Consolidated Steel in Orange employed thousands of workers exposed to asbestos in ship insulation, engine rooms, and boiler systems.

Power Generation

Coal-fired, natural gas, and nuclear power plants across Texas used asbestos insulation in boilers, turbines, and steam systems. Power plant workers are estimated to be eight times more likely to die of mesothelioma than the general population.

Oil & Gas Drilling

Texas drilling operations used asbestos-containing materials in drilling mud, brake systems, gaskets, and pipe thread compounds. Workers who mixed dry asbestos into drilling mud during the 1960s through 1980s were exposed to high concentrations across the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford Shale, and Gulf Coast fields.

Construction & Building Trades

Construction workers were exposed to asbestos in floor tiles, ceiling tiles, joint compounds, roofing materials, and pipe insulation. Texas’s building boom from the 1950s through 1980s meant widespread use of asbestos-containing products.

Steel & Heavy Manufacturing

Steel mills, foundries, and heavy manufacturing facilities used asbestos in furnace insulation, heat shields, gaskets, and protective equipment.

Beyond occupational exposure, many Texas residents were exposed to asbestos through contaminated consumer products. Talcum powder products have been linked to mesothelioma when contaminated with asbestos fibers.

Are You at Risk?
If you or a loved one regularly used talcum powder products and has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you may have a claim.
Contact SWMW Law for a free evaluation.

Who May Be Affected: Individuals who used talcum powder for personal hygiene over extended periods, cosmetics manufacturing workers, barbers and hairstylists, and mining workers at talc extraction facilities. Talc claims follow the same statute of limitations as other asbestos cases.

Texas is home to some of the largest military installations in the country, and many service members who trained or served at these bases were unknowingly exposed to asbestos. If you are a veteran who has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, we want you to know that help is available and that your service matters.

Fort Hood / Fort Cavazos (Killeen)

One of the world’s most populous military installations, established 1942. Over 150 WWII-era buildings demolished since 2012, many containing asbestos. Personnel in construction, maintenance, HVAC, and plumbing work faced significant exposure.

Joint Base San Antonio

Combining Fort Sam Houston, Randolph AFB, Lackland AFB, and Martindale Army Airfield. Buildings constructed before the 1980s across all four installations used asbestos in insulation, flooring, pipe lagging, and mechanical systems.

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi

A major Navy aviation facility with documented asbestos exposure affecting both military personnel and civilian workers in aircraft maintenance, building maintenance, and shipyard support.

Additional Texas military sites include Ellington Field JRB (Houston), Naval Station Ingleside, Red River Army Depot (Texarkana), Sheppard AFB (Wichita Falls), Dyess AFB (Abilene), and Goodfellow AFB (San Angelo).

VA Benefits + Civil Claims

Veterans can pursue both VA benefits and civil litigation claims simultaneously. Filing a civil claim does not generally affect VA benefits. SWMW Law has recovered millions for veterans from Fort Cavazos, JBSA, NAS Corpus Christi, and other Texas installations.

SWMW Law handles every aspect of the legal process so you can focus on treatment and family. Here is what to expect when you work with us.

Step 1: Free Case Evaluation

Contact us for a free, no-obligation consultation. We will review your diagnosis, work history, and exposure timeline. This conversation is completely confidential, and there is never any pressure.

Step 2: Exposure Investigation & Case Building

Our in-house investigators and medical experts work to identify every source of asbestos exposure across your career, whether at Texas refineries, shipyards, power plants, military installations, or other facilities. We use dose reconstruction and other scientific methods to build the strongest possible case.

Step 3: Strategic Filing

We evaluate the best jurisdiction for your case and file where the law gives your family the strongest path to compensation. For many Texas families, this means filing in Illinois or Missouri, where we have decades of experience and proven results.

Step 4: Pursuing All Compensation Sources

We file your lawsuit and simultaneously pursue trust fund claims and VA benefits to maximize total recovery. Many families are eligible for compensation from multiple sources.

Step 5: Resolution

Most cases resolve through settlements. Our goal is always to secure the maximum compensation as efficiently as possible, so your family can focus on what matters. You pay nothing unless we recover for you.

They answered every call and were extremely patient and supportive of us. They really did a great job with keeping us informed and educated. They fought for us. I would recommend them to anyone that hears the diagnosis of Mesothelioma. They will fight for you 100% of the way. Thank you SWMW Team for your support and patience! At SWMW Law, we believe you deserve a legal team that treats you like family from the very first phone call, because that is exactly what we do.

Deep Knowledge of Texas Asbestos Exposure

Texas has one of the most concentrated industrial asbestos exposure histories in the country. The Golden Triangle region of Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange has asbestos-related death rates two to five times higher than national averages. We have represented workers from refineries, shipyards, power plants, and oil fields across the state, and we know the products, the jobsites, and the companies responsible.

We File Where It Matters Most for Your Family

Here is something many people do not realize: you do not have to file your claim in Texas. Texas tort reform measures, including Senate Bill 15 (2005), created additional procedural requirements that can slow down the process for mesothelioma families. Our attorneys know which jurisdictions will deliver the strongest outcomes for your case. For many Texas families, that means filing in states like Illinois or Missouri, where courts have a long track record of holding asbestos companies accountable.

Proven Results for Texas Workers

Our track record in Texas includes tens of millions of dollars recovered for laborers, boilermakers, mechanics, welders, insulators, pipefitters, and machinists. We understand how to build strong cases using dose reconstruction methods, the scientific approach to estimating a worker’s cumulative asbestos exposure across every job site and every product they encountered over decades of work.

Nationwide Resources, Personal Attention

With over $750 million recovered across 31 states, SWMW Law brings national-scale litigation resources to every Texas case. We pursue lawsuits, trust fund claims, and VA benefits simultaneously to maximize total compensation.

Two large metal pipes partially buried in the ground with damaged and torn insulation material surrounding them. The pipes appear weathered and are set in a trench filled with dirt.
Two workers wearing white safety helmets and light blue shirts are standing outdoors near an industrial refinery complex with tall metal structures, pipes, and chimneys. One worker is pointing towards the refinery while holding documents in the other hand. The scene is set under a clear blue sky.

Understanding filing deadlines is critical for mesothelioma and asbestos claims. Texas has specific requirements that make early legal consultation essential.

Mesothelioma has a latency period of 20 to 50 years between initial asbestos exposure and diagnosis. Without the discovery rule, most victims would be time-barred before they even knew they were sick. Texas courts recognize that the limitations period does not begin until the plaintiff knew or should have known about their asbestos-related disease.
Texas Tort Reform and What It Means for Your Case

Texas enacted Senate Bill 15 in 2005, creating one of the more restrictive asbestos litigation frameworks in the country. Among other things, SB 15 established medical criteria requirements (codified as Chapter 90) for claims filed in Texas courts. While these requirements do not prevent mesothelioma cases from moving forward, they add procedural steps that can slow things down for families who are already dealing with a devastating diagnosis.

This is one of the reasons experienced asbestos attorneys often pursue Texas-exposure cases in jurisdictions with stronger track records for mesothelioma families. SWMW Law evaluates every case individually and files where the law and the courts give your family the best chance at full compensation. For many Texas families, that means filing in Illinois or Missouri, where our attorneys have decades of experience and proven results.

Surviving family members may file within 2 years of death (Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 71.002). Texas also provides a borrowing statute that may allow additional time in certain circumstances.

What is the statute of limitations for mesothelioma claims in Texas?

The statute of limitations is 2 years from discovery of your diagnosis and its connection to asbestos exposure (Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code § 16.003). Wrongful death claims must be filed within 2 years of death. Texas also has a special asbestos accrual rule under § 16.0031.

How does Texas tort reform affect my mesothelioma case?

Texas enacted Senate Bill 15 in 2005, which added medical documentation requirements for asbestos claims filed in Texas courts (codified as Chapter 90). While these requirements do not prevent mesothelioma cases from moving forward, experienced attorneys often evaluate whether filing in another jurisdiction may lead to a stronger outcome. SWMW Law files cases where the law and the courts give your family the best path to full compensation.

How much compensation can I receive for mesothelioma in Texas?

Compensation varies and depends upon a variety of factors, including worksites, trade, and asbestos-related diagnosis. SWMW Law has recovered tens of millions of dollars for Texas victims. Multiple sources (lawsuits, trusts, VA benefits) can be pursued simultaneously. Past results do not guarantee future outcomes.

What is the Golden Triangle and why does it matter?

The Beaumont-Port Arthur-Orange region of Southeast Texas, also called “Asbestos Alley,” has death rates two to five times higher than national averages due to decades of petrochemical refining and shipbuilding. Workers in this region have strong basis for asbestos claims.

Can I file a claim if I worked on Texas oil rigs?

Yes. Drilling operations used asbestos in drilling mud additives, pipe thread compounds, gaskets, and brake components. Workers who mixed asbestos into drilling mud during the 1960s through 1980s faced particularly high exposure.

What if the responsible company has gone bankrupt?

Many responsible companies established trust funds. Over 60 trusts hold more than $30 billion. SWMW Law identifies all applicable trusts and files claims while pursuing active defendants.

Can Texas veterans file both a VA claim and a lawsuit?

Yes. VA benefits and civil claims are entirely separate. Filing a lawsuit does not generally affect VA benefits. SWMW Law helps veterans from Fort Cavazos, JBSA, NAS Corpus Christi, and other Texas installations maximize total compensation.

What does it cost to hire SWMW Law?

Nothing upfront. We work on a contingency fee basis. No consultation fees, no retainer, no out-of-pocket costs. We only get paid if we recover for you.
