Roundup

If you or a family member has been diagnosed with cancer and believe exposure to the weed killer Roundup could be the cause, you could qualify for compensation from the manufacturer.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a specialized agency of the World Health Organization (WHO), classified glyphosate as “probably carcinogenic to humans” in 2015.

However, other regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have stated that glyphosate is unlikely to cause cancer in humans when used correctly.

Roundup, which was first released in 1974, is the most popular weed killer in the world, with nearly 250 million pounds used on our crops, golf courses and lawns.

Glyphosate is a main ingredient of the product, which may be a human carcinogen linked to several cancers.

A 1.25-gallon white container of Roundup weed killer for lawns, labeled "Kills Weeds Not The Lawn," with a green cap and a green and black label featuring grass and yellow dandelions. The container is placed on a box labeled "4 Count Refill 1.25 Gallon." Another similar Roundup container with a green spray wand attached is partially visible behind it.

Jobs that require ongoing exposure such as agricultural workers, gardeners, farm workers and landscapers may be at a higher risk for developing certain types of cancer:

  • Lymphoma
  • Myeloma
  • Bone cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Leukemia
  • Soft tissue carcinoma
  • Liver cancer
  • Thyroid cancer

Several investigations are underway to determine if the manufacturer, Monsanto (now owned by Bayer AG), continued to sell Roundup while aware of its health dangers.

As early as the 1970s, research revealed that glyphosate caused cancer in rodents, and in recent years, evidence of its links to cancer grow stronger. Monsanto denies that Roundup is dangerous and continues marketing it as an environmentally friendly product.

Glyphosate has the potential to harm non-target plants and animals, including beneficial insects and aquatic organisms. It can affect biodiversity by reducing food sources for wildlife and impacting the habitats of certain species.

Additionally, there is concern about the development of glyphosate-resistant weeds, which can lead to increased herbicide use and potential environmental consequences.

Glyphosate residues can persist in food crops and other agricultural products. While regulatory limits are in place to ensure safe levels, some studies have detected glyphosate in various food items, raising concerns about long-term exposure and potential health risks.
