What is Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma, sometimes referred to as meso or mesothelioma cancer, is a rare form of cancer that attacks the smooth lining of the chest, lungs, heart, and abdomen. The layer of tissue surrounding these organs is made up of mesothelial cells, hence the name mesothelio. The single cause of this devastating disease is exposure to asbestos. There are very few treatment options and sadly, most people who get mesothelioma do not survive. In fact, mesothelioma kills more than 2,500 Americans every year.

What is Asbestos Lung Cancer?

Lung cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancer in the United States, with about 200,000 people being diagnosed every year. Smoking is the most common cause of lung cancer, but asbestos exposure can also cause the disease.

If you are or were a smoker, and you were also exposed to asbestos, you are 15 to 50 times more likely you contract lung cancer. So if you were diagnosed with lung cancer, don’t assume it’s just from smoking. If you believe you were exposed to asbestos, contact us. We can investigate the cause of your lung cancer and see if an asbestos manufacturer should be paying for your pain and suffering.

Asbestos Lawsuits

SWMW mesothelioma law team has vast knowledge of asbestos-containing products. Many clients are diagnosed and have no idea when or where they were ever exposed. We can help answer those questions and hold the liable party responsible. Manufacturers and other corporations knew the risks of asbestos at least as far back as the 1930s and did nothing to stop the exposure. We hold these entities responsible so that our clients can get the treatment, care, and compensation they deserve. We can help you get the money owed to you and see to it that these companies are held responsible for their actions.

Although asbestos use in this country has dropped in recent decades, a steady number of people are still getting mesothelioma. That’s because this cancer can take anywhere from 20 to 50 years after asbestos exposure before symptoms appear.

While there’s no cure for mesothelioma and the outlook is generally poor, researchers have made significant progress in understanding the cancer and developing new treatment options and alternative therapies.

If you or a family member has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, or you have lost a loved one to the disease, you may be able to sue the companies responsible, and receive money for your medical bills and your pain and suffering.
